Dr. Amit Mathur is a product of rural British Columbia. After his years in Kitimat, BC and being awarded the Governor General’s Medal and Premier’s Excellence Award he entered the General Science Program at UBC with pharmacology studies. After 3 years of studies at UBC, he enrolled in the Doctor of Optometry program at the University of Waterloo. Among other distinctions he was awarded as the top academic student the Ontario College of Optometry Medal of Proficiency in 2000 and the Allergan Award for contact lens studies. His paper on fitting contact lenses was published in International Contact Len Clinic in 1999. Dr. Mathur continued his interest in eye disease management with his internship in Glaucoma and Retina at the Houston Eye Associates in the United States. Most recently he was featured by the British Columbia Doctors of Optometry with his member spotlight article.
After his studies, Dr. Mathur has worked in one of Canada’s busiest laser eye surgery clinic in Windsor Ontario, and as family optometrist in the North Vancouver community of Edgemont Village. Since then, he has cofounded a multi- location optometric practice with urban lower mainland clinics and rural locations in northern and interior BC. He has been an advisor and speaker for several pharmaceutical companies on topics of ophthalmic products and practice management. He is a leader in Dry Eye Disease treatment and was featured by Alcon in the Reader’s Digest Health Supplement June 2012. In supporting the eye care profession Dr. Mathur has been a supervisor for several optometry students during their training. He has been a believer in the collaborate approach to medicine - a past host of a local cable show highlighting collaborating approaches to solving chronic health diseases and medical team member optometrist for the Vancouver Giants. Dr. Mathur has always been involved rural health and first nations healthcare. Since 2013 he along with other physicians founded a health services company enabled by telemedicine infrastructure called Livecare Health Canada Inc. As the COO he has travelled to many first nations communities and rural municipalities to assist in providing greater access to physicians and allied health providers. Dr Mathur is now the President and Director of the public company CloudMD Software and Services, a North American leader in a digitally enabled patient centric health delivery model of care.
